Ductwork Cleaning

Commercial kitchens are busy, hot environments that generate lots of airborne steam and grease. The kitchen extraction system (fan, duct work and canopy) should be designed to efficiently remove these contaminants by extracting and filtering the airborne grease from the kitchen and venting it safely to atmosphere. However, over a period of time the grease collects on the filters and condenses onto the cooler, internal surfaces of the canopy and ductwork.

This build up gradually reduces the efficiency of the system causing the steam and grease to collect on the internal surfaces of the kitchen instead of being safely extracted.

In addition, the fat and grease residues in the duct work and on the fan, cause foul, rank smells as well as creating a significant and very real fire risk. This contamination is best removed by a professional deep clean to the entire extraction system.

For this reason, a number of regulatory controls have been introduced by the government to ensure that commercial catering kitchens and their extraction systems are cleaned by a professional company on a regular basis.

For example, The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 stipulates that by law, the person responsible for the business premise must carry out a fire risk assessment and implement and maintain a fire management plan.

The Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES) TR/19 Standards provide recommendations on service intervals for kitchen duct cleaning. Many insurance companies are now stipulating that a professional company must carry out the duct cleaning in order to validate insurance polices.

A planned, regular ventilation, ductwork, vent, fan and filter cleaning programme undertaken by Breckland Industrial will help to satisfy this regulation and minimise the most common cause of fires within commercial catering establishments (restaurants, pubs and café kitchens.)

Breckland Industrial Ltd. will conduct, free of charge, a full survey and risk assessment of your Kitchen and extraction system and provide a free quotation to complete the work.

It is very important that ALL sections of the system are accessible for cleaning. In our free survey, we will identify to you, any system sections that cannot be accessed for cleaning. We will advise and recommend any requirement for additional access panel installation enabling complete access to all sections of the ducting system (fan, in-system filters, ducting and exhaust stack/chimney). These necessary panels will be detailed seperatley in our quotation.

On satisfactory completion of the cleaning work and receipt of payment, we will provide a free fire safety certificate detailing the scope of work undertaken.
